Jeff Soderquist enters his 18th season at the helm of the women's basketball program at John Brown.
As the winningest coach in program history, Soderquist currently holds an overall record of 255-279 (.478) and has guided the Golden Eagles to four trips to the NAIA National Championships in 2004, 2006, 2011 and 2014.
In 2013-14, the women's basketball program pieced together 28 total victories and 15 wins in Sooner Athletic Conference play, both program records. JBU ended a 13-year drought against Oklahoma City, the eventual national champion, in the SAC tournament semifinals and made the program's first-ever appearance in a conference title game. At the National Championships, the Golden Eagles upended then-No. 1 Vanguard (Calif.) before completing an 18-point comeback in a narrow victory over Loyola (La.). JBU dispatched of Lyon (Ark.) in the Round of 32 to earn its first-ever win at the national tournament. John Brown's Fab Four finish marked the best finish in program history, and is currently the second-farthest national tournament run of any Golden Eagle athletic program.
The 2003-04 season was a banner year for JBU as Soderquist's squad won a then-program-record 21 games, earning him Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors. Additionally, the Golden Eagles won 10 conference games, gave up a stingy 55.6 points per game and scored 2,207 total points, all previous program records.
The 2011 SAC Coach of Character graduated from JBU in 1993, spending two seasons as former head men's basketball coach John Sheehy's student assistant. Recruited by Sheehy to play for the men's program, Soderquist suffered a career-ending shoulder injury his freshman year forcing him to the sidelines. After graduation, he continued to assist Sheehy on the men's basketball coaching staff for four seasons while taking the helm of the men's tennis program.
In 1994, he was assigned duties as the sports information director before being named head women's basketball coach in 1997.
Soderquist and his wife, Amy, also a John Brown alumnus, reside in Siloam Springs with their son, Breck, and daughter, Kacey.
