What a great time to be a Golden Eagle! Our facilities just continue to become better and better. The Golden Eagles have a phenomenal indoor venue with the Bill George Arena and it seems hard to believe that we are entering our sixth season in this beautiful gymnasium. The soccer game pitch and practice field received much needed work, as we brought in 200 tons of sand and 40 yards of organic compost this summer. I believe both teams will see the difference this has made in the playing surface. Over the summer, we put lights on the two-court tennis structure and are now proud to have all six courts adorned with lighting. We also did some work on the surface and the fencing. Our cross country team will be enjoying the new cross country course that our grounds crew cleared for them over the last nine months – a great opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the land JBU owns while not having to run on hard pavement all the time! We also continue to keep up with the golf green area where our golfers are able to practice chipping and putting on campus.
However, the most exciting news for our teams is that the Walton Lifetime Health Complex and the Murray Sells gymnasium are both receiving air conditioning this fall! By the beginning of the Spring 2016 semester, all of our gyms and locker rooms will be air-conditioned.
The Golden Eagle Booster Club has a tremendous history of providing encouragement and support to our coaches and student-athletes. We feel blessed in all areas: quality coaches, facilities, equipment and programs. We are also very thankful for our practice and game facilities.
Our teams were very successful last year, both on and off the court. Our women’s soccer team played their way into the conference final for the second year in a row. Although they fell short in the final, they finished 11-5-3 overall! Our volleyball team, under the direction of first-year coach Ken Carver, finished the season 22-11. Our teams were also very successful in academics with 77 (50%) being named to the SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll while 30 juniors and seniors were named JBU Scholar-Athletes (3.2 GPA or above) and 19 were named NAIA Scholar-Athletes (3.5 or above). We also had five teams qualify for the NAIA Scholar-Team Award: women’s tennis, men’s and women’s cross country, women’s soccer and volleyball. Our student-athletes continue to get the job done on the court and in the classroom while leading and participating in many community service outreaches.
The mission of the Golden Eagle Booster Club is to give support to each of the JBU intercollegiate athletic programs. We want our campus, local community and alumni to be proud of supporting John Brown University athletics. My hope is that you and/or your business will partner with us during the 2015-16 academic year and assist with our continuing needs. Thank you for your consideration.
